The hires of Devonte Amos at Rolling Meadows and Ryan Gronwick at Wheeling brings the total of Mid-Suburban League football coaches who also played in the league to 18. Amos, a Daily Herald All-Area player in 2016, will be the sixth to coach at his alma mater while Gronwick played on consecutive MSL West champions at Palatine in 2011-12.
Palatine’s 2024 Mid-Suburban West football title put the program in sole possession of most outright championships with 11 and added to its lead of outright or shared crowns with 18. Prospect’s MSL East title moved the program into a tie for second for outright titles at 10 with Elk Grove and Conant and is its 12th overall.
Palatine’s Corey Olson and Hoffman Estates’ Tim Heyse also moved into the all-time MSL coaches winning percentage leaders for a minimum of 75 games.

The MSL Super Bowls started in 1970 after the league split into North and South divisions. The game was discontinued after the 1974 season to ensure both MSL division champions received automatic berths into the state playoffs, which started in 1974 and had just 80 qualifying schools in five classes. The MSL Super Bowl returned when the 2020 season was played in the spring of 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic with a 6-game schedule with no IHSA postseason.
